Welcome to the website of the Alano Club of Costa Mesa. We are community dedicated to recovery from drugs and alcohol. Ours is a membership organization, and we extend an invitation to those in nearby communities to discover our way of living—clean and sober!

IN CELEBRATION OF OUR CLUB STAFF!

All who come to this club can’t overlook the smiling, caring faces of those behind the coffee bar and serving both members and visitors, alike! Please meet our beloved club staff, each one here is very special and a gem in our eyes…

Chris is our club manager. (He plays bass for the local band “Straight Shooter,” a club favorite) and a laid-back, casual style, he functions as the day-to-day operator of the club, ensuring both the mundane and significant tasks are done daily. He does it all—from ordering supplies and handling daily financial transactions, to overseeing community-service participants and providing input to the board.

Bill C.  is our assistant manager working Sunday through Thursday in the late afternoons and evenings, Bill cooks up many of the weekend food fests we have here at the club. And, when he’s not on the time clock, he volunteers in developing and updating the club website, www.costamesasclub.org. Bill is no stranger to the club; he’s been affiliated for many years. He continues to be of service, offering a helpful hand to newcomers with his no-nonsense, keep-it-real style. Again, welcome Mr. Bill!

Shirley, on any given morning during the week, will gladly pour you a cup of coffee, humbly scoop out cigarette butts from the ashtrays, or just sit with you to shoot the sh_t. “It’s my job to make you feel at home,” Shirley says. “I like to think of this place as somewhere people can come to and ‘be a part of.’ That’s so important in recovery.”

Mick staffs the coffee bar and mans the club on weekends. Don’t let his gruff voice and “tough-guy” demeanor dissuade you from getting to know him. He’s got a big heart. The other day, he wasted no time greeting a newcomer to the club, promoting our free, 30-day membership (see Page 4 for more info). And if you’re not a dues-paying member, please consider becoming one—it’d make Mick proud!

Kathy works on Special events in the late afternoons and evenings, rounding out the staff. Kathy is known for her kind-heartedness—always willing to help, especially those in early recovery. She’s been known to sit down with someone and offer that person information about sober-living homes and programs—literally walking someone through their first few moments of recovery!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU—WE LOVE OUR CLUB STAFF!
